For years children have learned many lessons ranging from friendship, saving money, to being kind to others. They have also gone on many adventures too. These books may have interested children because of the bears! Would other authors write books with similar animals and themes? One author has done just that. They may or may not have read the Berenstain Bears books, but this book follows a similar path! Mr. Melon Bear seeks an adventure. He finds friends to follow Him on a grand adventure to learn new lessons. Children who love animals will learn about what they find on the adventure. They find ants who teach how much they can carry to the distance in which bears can smell food!!! I hope this book will be enjoyed! ( Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2021 )

Obviously from the book title it is about curiosity, however, I felt that the story itself wasn’t entirely clear on that message. While the children and the bear displayed curiosity and finding answers to their science questions, it appeared as though there as an additional, yet unclear, message in the second half of the book. Mr. Melon Bear startles the kids, but they quickly realize their preconceptions about people like him were wrong and they all go on an adventure asking questions and discovering new things. In addition to a lesson about getting to know someone before making a judgment (the children were initially afraid of Mr. Melon Bear but gave him a chance and made a new friend), the author did a good job of including facts about the animals without them seeming forced or out of place in the story.
